Google I/O 2017 Extended Roadshow

Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. Google I/O 2017 was held in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California on May 17-19. GDG Philippines brought the I/O experience to different cities with Google I/O 2017 Extended Roadshow, a series of talks and workshops to help professional and student developers deep dive in the new technologies announced. We visited Rizal, Manila, Laguna, Palawan, and Naga this year.

Rizal

The first leg, Google I/O 2017 Extended Rizal, was held in University of Rizal System - Morong Campus on June 24. I talked about the latest updates from Google I/O 2017 in the morning plenary and conducted a basic android workshop in the afternoon.

Manila

Google I/O 2017 Extended Manila was held on July 1 at University of Sto. Tomas. I had a talk/workshop about Android Instant Apps in the afternoon breakout session.

Laguna

We were back in UP Los Baños for Google I/O 2017 Extended Laguna (July 15). I conducted a basic android workshop in the afternoon.

Palawan

Google I/O 2017 Extended Palawan was held on July 28 at Palawan State University. I had another Android workshop in the afternoon breakout session.

Naga

The last leg, Google I/O 2017 Extended Naga, was held at Ateneo De Naga University on August 12. I talked about the latest updates about Android Development from Google I/O 2017 in the morning plenary and conducted a basic android workshop in the afternoon.

Google I/O 2016 Extended Roadshow

Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. Google I/O 2016 was held in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California on May 18-20. GDG Philippines will be bringing the I/O experience to different cities with Google I/O 2016 Extended Roadshow, a series of talks and workshops to help professional and student developers deep dive in the new technologies announced during Google I/O 2016.

The schedule for the I/O 2016 Extended Roadshow is: June 25 (Subic), July 2 (Manila), July 9-10 (Cavite), July 16 (Laguna), July 23 (Bulacan), July 29 (Palawan). There will be talks in the morning and hands-on workshops in the afternoon.

Google I/O 2016 Live

Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. Google I/O 2016 will be held in Mountain View, California on May 18-20. If you are not attending in person, you can get the I/O experience by watching I/O Live at the website or by attending Google I/O Extended events being organized by Google Developer Groups and other communities worldwide.

Google I/O 2015 Extended Roadshow

Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. This year, GDG Philippines brought the Google I/O experience to Manila and different provinces. The Google I/O 2015 Extended Roadshow is a series of workshops and talks centered around the technologies announced during Google I/O 2015. It was held in Pampanga (July 4), Manila (July 11), Batangas (July 18), Albay (July 25), Camarines Sur (July 26), and Cavite (August 1).

In each Extended events, we had talks in the morning and hands-on workshops in the afternoon. Morning plenary talks include the keynote, Google Cardboard and Google Translate Community. Workshops include Design Thinking and Rapid Prototyping, Web, and Android. In all six legs, I talked about the basics of Android apps development and facilitated hands-on sessions.

Google I/O 2015 Extended Pampanga

GDG Philippines went to Pampanga last Saturday (July 4) for Google I/O 2015 Extended Pampanga, which is in partnership with GBG Angeles and Pampanga Dev Group.

In the morning, we had a keynote (Paul Pajo), and talks about Google Cardboard (Benj Tupas), Google Translate Community (Celine Barrozo), Android Masters (Wayne Manuel), and short talks from sponsors. We also had booths for Android One and Google Cardboard.

In the afternoon, there were three break-out workshops: Design Thinking Workshop with Toni-Jan Keith Monserrat, Polymer and Google Maps Javascript API with Wayne, and Android Workshop with me. I talked about the Basics of Android App Development before facilitating a hands-on workshop.

Google I/O 2015 Extended Pampanga is the first leg of our Google I/O 2015 Extended Roadshow, a series of workshops and talks centered around the technologies announced during Google I/O 2015. On July 11, we'll be in DLSU Manila for Google I/O 2015 Extended Manila. Other legs include Batangas (July 18), Albay (July 25), Camarines Sur (July 26), and Cavite (August 1). Baguio Weekend

Celine, Gerardo, Mama Chelle and family, and I spent last weekend (June 20-21) in Baguio City. We arrived in the early morning of June 20 and went straight to Azalea Hotel to rest first.

We woke up early and went to the Centennial Building of University of Baguio (UB) for the Google I/O 2015 Extended Baguio (link). I talked about the new Android updates from I/O.

In the afternoon, we facilitated code labs in UB's computer laboratory. Gerardo was supposed to do the code lab about Google+ signin in Android and I was supposed to facilitate the App Indexing Code Lab but due to technical difficulties, I suggested he do a basic Android workshop and I will do an advanced code lab (Unit Testing). These didn't really work out because the Windows computers do not want to cooperate. We shared tips and answered some questions. I also shared about an upcoming inter-school Android app development competition.

After the event, we had dinner with the organizers and volunteers of GDG Baguio at 50s Diner (in ). Celine, Reymart, Mama Chelle, Gerardo, and I went to the night market before going back to the hotel.

The next day, we woke up early to go to the strawberry farm. We were able to do some strawberry picking. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and rested. We then had lunch at Cafe by the Ruins before Celine and I went back to Manila.

Google I/O 2015

Sundar Pichai, Google SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps announced on Google+ the dates for Google I/O 2015 in San Francisco: May 28-29.

The registration will be opened on March 17 at 09:00 AM PDT and will close on March 19 at 5:00PM PDT. After that, a lottery of tickets will be done to select the developers who will be able to purchase tickets. General Admission tickets cost $900 but Academic tickets are only $300.

If you won't be able to attend I/O in person, you can still join online (in the Google I/O website) or attend one of the I/O Extended events worldwide. GDG Philippines will have another I/O Extended event this year. For updates, add GDG Philippines in your Google+ circles.

Google I/O 2014

Google I/O 2014 is going to be on June 25-26 at Moscone West in San Francisco. Google I/O is Google's annual developer conference, where they share the latest products and technologies. The theme this year is Design, Develop, and Distribute. There will be breakout sessions, workshops and code labs, app reviews and 'Box talks. I am looking forward to attending Google I/O, especially the sessions, workshops and 'box talks about Android and Wearables. Android Wear's official SDK and the 1.0 of Android Studio will probably be announced there.

If you won't be able to attend Google I/O, you can watch it live on the Google I/O website or attend an I/O Extended event near you. In the Philippines, the Google Developer Groups are organizing I/O Extended events in Manila, Baguio, Bacolod, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Nueva Ecija, and Zamboanga.

Google I/O 2013 Extended

Can't go to San Francisco for Google I/O 2013? Get the I/O experience by attending Google I/O Extended events being organized by Google Developers Group worldwide. In the Philippines, there are seven (7) Google I/O Extended events: Manila, Baguio, Bacolod, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, and Sagada.

We'll be at the GDG Philippines' Manila I/O Extended at Center Stage Family KTV & Resto Bar (Jupiter Street, Makati City) from 8:00 PM of May 15 to 03:00 AM of May 16. Aside from viewing the keynote and other sessions, there will also have a show-and-tell of apps.
